Visit to New township of Kashmiri migrants

I interacted with the family of Prerana in the migrant Township. In the photograph, I and Sarita were with Prerana.  She was a child when her parents fled from Baramulla in Kshmir due to religious riot. Before coming to this housing colony, they lived for 7 years in the heart of the city, accessing transportation, kitchen items, cooking items, temples, education etc. very easily. The community was living in close proximity, happiness experienced due to easy access to transportation, shopping, temples, schools and colleges. But she felt that the quality of life is reduced due to several problems they now faced like cost of life becoming higher due to availabilty of shops only in the housing complex, lack of adequate transportational facilities, lack of medical facilities, no mobile ambulance in need of crisis. difficulty of age dpeople to climb 31 steps to reach the house if the hose allotment is in the third floor, disturbance in social life, fear from pathogenic beliefs that the place was a haunted one as during construction of the buildings, several human bones and other parts were seen, fear of young girls and women to travel from the highway to their homes dur to fear of sexual abuse. Elders getting more body painson their knees and feet, backaches etc., difficulties of 10, 11, and 12th graders to commute from schools due to lack of transportational facilities, and the ill planned township with four doors congested in very small area, preventing one family to open their doorunless the other closed theirs.  She said problems of water supply and irregular electrical supply were more than they had in the previous place. Her mom said no street vendors came there to sell anything. I felt it was difficult to locate a house as there was no number plate paaaaalaced on each house.  I asked the mother whether she would like to go back to Baramulla. She said she did not want to go back to Kashmir, as she felt her daughter would not be safe there.  The daughter told me she would not be able to adjust there as she would be bound to undo her style of dressing and other freedom enjoyed in Jammu.  She would be ready to move out from Jammu for employment. Her mom also agreed that she and her husband would surely send her to kerala for employment. We were very happy to visit this family. I was very eager to visit the township. Sarita helped vme to materilise my desire. Thanks sarita and Vritti.
